Oregon State Police (OSP) arrested the driver  who left the scene Saturday evening of a serious injury single vehicle crash on Highway 47 about three miles south of Gaston. The vehicle’s driver was seen leaving the scene on foot and getting into an unknown white car. He was located Sunday and lodged in Yamhill County Jail.

OSP Senior Trooper Dan Davis arrested J. JESUS FARIAS LLAMAS, age 31, from Cornelius on the following charges:

* Assault in the Third Degree
* Reckless Driving
* Recklessly Endangering Another Person
* Felony Failure to Perform the Duties of a Driver Involved in an Injury Accident
* ICE Hold placed on suspect at jail

The arrest is related to the trooper’s investigation of a serious injury crash on March 14, 2009 at approximately 6:16 p.m. when a vehicle with two occupants was southbound on Highway 47 near milepost 30 attempting to negotiate a left curve posted at 45 mph. The vehicle entered the curve too fast, went off the southbound shoulder into an embankment and rolled onto its top where it came to rest blocking the southbound lane.

According to witnesses, the driver got out of the vehicle and left on foot northbound. The driver, who was described as a Hispanic male in his 30’s, was seen getting into an unknown white car and leaving the area.

Passenger DANIEL A. ATRISTAN TOSCANO, age 57, from Cornelius, was seriously injured. He was transported by LifeFlight to Legacy Emanuel Hospital. His condition is described as improving.

Investigators believe safety restraints were in use.

OSP troopers from the McMinnville Area Command office are continuing the investigation and an arraignment will be scheduled in Yamhill County Circuit Court. Alcohol and speed are contributing factors.

OSP was assisted at the scene by Yamhill County Sheriff’s Office, Carlton Police Department, and ODOT.

The highway was blocked about 90 minutes.
