The City of Beaverton is partnering with the Oregon Food Bank to host the third of three emergency food distributions this fall at the Beaverton Resource Center. More than 250 families in need are expected to receive food as well as guidance about how to access other services such as rent assistance. Two previous emergency food distributions were held at the Beaverton Resource Center in September and October and served nearly 3,000 local family members in need of immediate assistance.

Note: Reporters are welcome to attend and cover. Beaverton area families that meet income guidelines were pre-invited to the distribution, therefore we are asking that this event not be promoted in advance. In addition, we ask that you respect the dignity and privacy of the families asking for food and avoid showing client faces unless the client has agreed in advance. We will make every effort to identify a family prior to 10:15 AM that will be open to talking with the media.

WHEN: Monday, November 16, 10 AM to 1 PM
(Mayor Doyle is expected to be there around 11 a.m.)
WHERE: Beaverton Resource Center, 12500 SW Allen Blvd. (corner of SW Allen Blvd. and Hall Blvd.)

Beaverton Mayor Denny Doyle and Oregon Food Bank CEO Rachel Bristol have said the following about the emergency food distribution:

“Like many other cities in the region the recession has left a profound impact here in Beaverton,” said Mayor Denny Doyle. “I’m excited that this project will help some of our most vulnerable citizens during these tough economic times.”

“Thank you to the City of Beaverton for partnering with the Oregon Food Bank and the Tualatin Valley Gleaners to get more food into the system to help people during this time of critical need,” said Rachel Bristol, CEO of Oregon Food Bank. “We look forward to continuing our partnership into the future.”
