Today, a woman returned home with her two young children and discovered an intruder in her kitchen. He was carrying a backpack that contained her laptop. The man left without incident and the woman called 911. Sheriff’s Deputies surrounded the area and eventually arrested the suspect nearby.
Details of Event:
On Monday, March 22, 2010, at 12:34 p.m., a woman called 911 from her house located in the 8300 block of SW Cashmur Lane in the community of Raleigh Hills. The victim reported that when she returned home with her two young children, she found a strange man standing in her kitchen. She said, she asked the suspect what he was doing there. The man told her someone had let him into the residence.
The woman asked the man what was in the backpack he was carrying, and the suspect produced a laptop computer that belonged to her. The victim took the computer and told the intruder to leave her home. He left without harming the woman or her children. The victim immediately called 911 and described the suspect to dispatchers.
Sheriff’s deputies were dispatched and quickly surrounded the area. They were assisted by Beaverton and Portland Police officers, including a Portland Police K9 Team. A Washington County Sheriff’s K9 team was also dispatched. An alert deputy spotted the suspect behind a fence in a nearby apartment complex. The suspect, who was later identified as 38-year-old Larry Eugene Watson (no current address), attempted to flee on foot. Deputies chased him over fences and caught up to him a short time later. He was arrested without incident.
The victim later identified Mr. Watson as the man who she confronted in her kitchen. He was taken to the Washington County Jail and booked on burglary charges.
