On Sunday April 18, 2010 at 1:07 pm, 22-year-old Joseph Uriarte turned himself in the Sheriff’s Deputies at the Washington County Sheriff’s Office located at 215 SW Adams Avenue in Hillsboro, Oregon. Due to several tips from the public, Mr. Uriarte became the focus of detective’s investigation and there was probable cause to arrest Mr. Uriarte. Deputies were attempting to locate Mr. Uriarte prior to him turning himself in.
Mr. Uriarte was cooperative at the time of his arrest. He gave no reason for assaulting the 7-11 clerk.
Joseph Uriarte was charged with Assault II and Robbery I. He is lodged in the Washington County Jail.
Summary of EventA clerk from an Aloha area 7-11 was stabbed last night after chasing a thief who ran from the store. The clerk was taken to the hospital with stab wounds. The suspect dropped the half case of beer that he stole from the store.
On Thursday, April 15, 2010, at about 9:00 p.m., Sheriff’s deputies responded to a robbery call at the 7-Eleven located at SW 178th Avenue and SW Tualatin Valley (TV) Highway in the community of Aloha. Deputies arriving at the scene learned that the suspect stole a half case of beer and ran out of the store. The clerk chased the suspect out of the store and north on SW 178th Ave.
The suspect was riding a bicycle and carrying the beer when the clerk caught up to him and a fight ensued. The clerk managed to get the suspect off of his bike and at some point during the fight the suspect stabbed the clerk in the upper torso. The clerk stopped fighting and the suspect fled on foot northbound on SW 170th Avenue, leaving the bike and the beer behind.
Sheriff’s Deputies quickly surrounded the area and used two K9 units to search for the suspect. The dogs tracked the suspect for a distance, but neither one was able to find him. The Sheriff’s forensic team responded to analyze the crime scene and seize the in-store surveillance video. Sheriff’s detectives responded to assist with the investigation.
The suspect is described as a Hispanic male in his late teens to early 20’s, wearing a black and white plaid shirt and dark shorts. Detectives are asking the public for any information that might lead to the identification of the suspect in this case.
The victim was taken by Metro West ambulance to Emanuel Hospital. Although he was stabbed numerous times in the upper torso, he was very lucky and suffered non-life-threatening injuries.
