deported illegal Mexican returns to Calif drunk drives

SAN DIEGO — A drunken wrong-way driver who caused the death of a sheriff’s deputy who tried to stop him was sentenced Friday to 7 years and 8 months in prison, a term some of the deputy’s supporters said was too low.  Jose Pedro Lopez Jasso, 23, was charged in connection with the Feb. 28 death of Deputy Ken Collier. 8 months later, he pleaded guilty to gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated and other charges related to the deputy’s crash in Santee.

Lopez also pleaded guilty to manufacturing a weapon — a comb fashioned into a shank — while in county jail. The weapon was found in his cell in March.

Dozens of the deputy’s supporters, including Sheriff Bill Gore and Deputy District Attorney Bonnie Dumanis, filled 1 side of a large courtroom in San Diego Superior Court Friday to watch the sentencing hearing. On the other side of the room sat Lopez’s friends and family.

Lopez, a Mexican citizen who had been deported once, was said to be “remorseless” when he was stopped. /

“Sigh” Rant and rave at the right people. Your elected officials are the folks failing you on this issue, both at the state and federal levels. Established law clearly indicates what SHOULD be happening, and yet illegal immigrants are continuously treated with kid gloves. Ask your reps. “Why?”. Make your vote count on this issue. If you know a rep. is an apologist for illegals, send him/her packing. They won’t get serious ’til we get serious. Enough with the excuses, limp-wristed efforts, different rules for different people and yelling into echo chambers. R and D both have their reasons for keeping the status quo. Remind them who is in charge.

Guess this proves how useful deportation really is. A drunk driver killed someone, and they are going to jail, yay. Illegal or deputy does not really matter. If their roles in the tragedy were reversed, a drunk deputy killed an illegal in a car accident, I would still be glad the driver was going to prison.

    To Bruce,

You are missing the point, an American police officer is dead because an illegal alien who is not supposed to be here was driving drunk on the wrong side of the freeway.

  •  Americans are fed up with illegal aliens who come here and use financial and public resources that are paid by Americans and should be allocated to fellow Americans.

  • They also do take jobs that Americans want. I used to be a construction worker and that used to be a well paying field. Now those wages are depressed and contractors that used to hire Americans have to hire illegal aliens just to keep up with other contractors who have hired illegal aliens to increase profits.

Do you not see a problem when 8% of all births in the US are from illegal alien parents? Hispanics have a higher population growth rate due legal/illegal immigration and birth rates? This will fundamentally change America for the worst. Caucasians are now a minority in California and that is a bad thing considering the average finances and educational attainment of that ethnicity.http://pewhispanic.org/reports/report.php?ReportID=125

Hispanics also are underperforming in schools and are the second worst in academic achievement.

The big problem with that is you have a growing blue collar workforce that competes with Americans at a time when jobs are being outsourced, computerized or mechanized. This will make it so much harder to compete with Europe and especially China and India who’s K-12 educational system is superior to ours.

I am an independant voter but what do you think will happen to the 2 party system when there are ever growing majorities of hispanics who vote overwhelming democratic?

I am an immigrant but one whose family chose to respect the laws of this country and went through the health, financial and civics requirements that were asked of us. The only thing broken about our immigration system is our politician’s will to enforce immigration laws to the degree that is necessary. I am an immigrant but I am also a patriot of this great country and I am worried about it’s dimming future.

That’s what californians get for being so open to the idea of illegal immigration.

Things like this will continue to happen until they work hard to solve the problem, and they quit hiring mexicans to guard the mexican border.
